God, SHUT UP.  Just because all of your "cool", "non-conformist", ARROGANT, "punk" friends don't like a band, doesn't mean YOU CAN'T LIKE THEM.  Just because thirteen year old girls wearing black eyeliner listen to a band, does not mean you can't listen to it either.  If a band has SO MANY fans, there has GOT to be SOMETHING good about them.  If a band is THAT POPULAR, then they obviously can't suck THAT MUCH.  But OH NO.  You MUST look "cool" in front of people (whether you think so or not) you're trying to impress.  BASING YOUR MUSIC CHOICES ON SOMEONE ELSE'S IDEA OF WHAT "GOOD" MUSIC IS... PATHETIC.  Only YOU can decide what good music is.  Really, if you think about it, there isn't such a thing as "good" or "bad" music.  What you like may be different to what someone else likes.  That music is good to you, but not to someone else.  And NEVER say a band sucks if you havn't even HEARD them.  Don't just automatically assume that because they are on MTV or VH1 or FUSE or because they are in Rolling Stone or Alternative Press or Spin or Blender that they suck. 

You know what I am listening to RIGHT NOW?  MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE.  You know why?  Because they are my FAVORITE BAND.  And I am in NO WAY ashamed.  I am in NO WAY embarassed.  I'm going to listen to them, no matter what you say.

There have actually been a few times when someone tells me they hate a band, and then later I say something like  "Hey, listen to this cool song!" and they agree not knowing who the artist is.  Most of the time they say something along the lines of "Wow!  This is awesome!  Who is this?" and then get VERY embarassed when I tell them because they've said they hated that band about 3495hundredg932million5s00j2trillionf3rj2cp4zillion times.

And if you happen to like (or even love) a band that your friends think is "uncool" because of the reasons listed above, YOU SHOULDN'T BE ASHAMED.  You're most likely trying to be all "non-conformist" and what not anyway, right?  Well let me tell you this: when you pretend to not like a band because your friends don't like them, you're conforming.  So wear that Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds To Mars or even AFI shirt proudly, kid.  And when someone tells you "That band sucks." just look at them blankly and say "I know.  That's why I bought their shirt and their CD.  And that's also why they have so many fans."
